Cercis canadensis (Eastern Redbud)

Type: Native Tree/Shrub

Height: 20-30' tall; 25-35' spread

Sun: Full sun to partial shade

Flowers: rose-purple

Water: medium moisture in well drained soils

 

Noted for pea-like, rose-purple flowers which bloom in early spring before the foliage emerges. Flowers give way to flattened bean-like seedpods that mature to brown in the summer and can feed wildlife through the winter. Attracts butterflies. Deer, clay soil resistant.
